LCALG Community Consultation Policy


To clearly define a set of community consultation principles and strategies that relate to appropriate ‘Lane Cove Alive Leadership Group Inc. (LCALG) specific’ projects and activities.


LCALG will make all best attempts to consult all sectors of the community likely to be affected by ‘LCALG specific’ plans, projects, programs and activities.


All best efforts will be undertaken by LCALG to carry out community consultation in a clear and transparent manner. This includes providing an understanding of the process to be undertaken to all participants.

LCALG is committed to a collaborative approach to community consultation. LCALG will aim to work with the public in the decision-making process, including the development of alternatives and the identification of preferred solutions.  As part of this process, LCALG will look to the community for advice and innovation in formulating solutions and will endeavour to incorporate this advice into ensuing decisions.

All participants will be informed of the timing of the consultation process and their input will be identified and acknowledged.

The method of public participation/consultation will depend on the type of project or strategy being undertaken and may include: Planning forums, community advisory meetings, working parties amongst others.

When LCALG is involved in a joint project with Lane Cove Council (LCC) and the project is being managed and resourced by Council staff, Council’s Consultation protocols will be followed. The Lane Cove Village Structure Plan is an example of this.  This circumstance does not however preclude LCALG from complementing the consultation process with appropriate community engagement activities.

Inclusiveness, accessibility and diversity

All reasonable attempts will be made by LCALG to:
• undertake thorough identification of the key stakeholders with regard to the issues being considered
• give equal opportunity to all participants. The method of consultation used will assist in ensuring that all sectors of the community are adequately canvassed
• actively encourage all sectors of the community to be involved. This includes diverse cultural groups and those people with disabilities
• ensure that times of consultations and venues chosen are suitable and accessible.
• ensure that advanced notice is given of a consultation process to be undertaken. The methods of communication to be used are defined in the LCALG communication policy.


• All best efforts will be undertaken to call for community participation at the earliest stage in the life of a project, having regard to project scale, purpose and timeframes.

 Responsiveness and Feedback

• LCALG is open to input and is prepared to take on new ideas. Participants will be informed of the decision-making process, including the treatment of their input.
• Opportunities will be available for further input during the decision-making process
• Every endeavour will be made by LCALG to advise participants of the final outcome of the consultation.


• LCALG will ensure that there are adequate resources for community consultation to take place.
